James Daley/Daly was my Great Grandfather. The use of both spellings for Daley/Daly has been used throughout his life. He was born in Launceston on 27th/11/1848, was baptised a Catholic on 17th/12/1848 at the old St Josephs Church, Launceston. At 27 years of age James married Margaret Bell at Franklin on 16th/09/1871. They had a large family together having 11 children. He has been listed as being a baker, farmer and finally a police constable with the Territorial Police force from 1876 to 1893. He served in the Huon, Channel and Tasman areas. He died at Impression Bay (Premaydena) on 16th/09/1893 from Pulmonary Consumption and is buried at Cornelian Bay Cemetery. (N.B. Although the birth record for him is Launceston, Tasmania, his Burial Record states he was born in Ireland).
