The Eagle children were my ancesters and we have just discovered this. My great grandfather was called Thomas Eagle and he was apprentised to a Mr Flood who taught him to be a carpenter. Thomas married Miss Salmon and immigrated to New Zealand. He was involved in building the old wooden parliament building in Wellington and then went on to lease Maori lease land in Balance in the Wairarapa in NZ but unfortunately the house he built was destroyed in a bush fire. He returned to Wellington and was a good friend of Prime Minister Fraser.
His daughter Muriel Westhead is my grandmother and she knew nothing of the Irish heritage (his mum was an Irish convict, Margaret McGoverin) or that her father had been an orphan.
