Louisa was born Louisa Anne Frances, her mother Amelia Cummins had been an orphan at the Queens Orphan School, she married Peter Emslie in 1855.

Louisa was 9 years old when her father died. Amelia applied to the orphanage to take Louisa and her 3 sisters, but this was denied, the orphanage gave Amelia an allowance of 7/6 weekly.

Louisa never married and she died in Hobart in 1915 aged 59.
