Update to previous claim: Denis Daniel Monaghan's ' father was Sgt Denis Moynihan born Tralee in Ireland, married Bridget Ryan, born Tipperary, Ireland,  widow, at St. Mary's Chapel, in 1845, at Kent. Denis served 24 years in the British Army and he came to Australia as a pensioner guard with two sons onboard the convict ship Rodney. Denis was Overseer of the Ross Female Factory and Bridget was the Matron. Denis died in 1854, his headstone reads he was the father of five children. Three of the five children were admitted to the Orphanage after Bridget remarried to George Metcalfe, a convicted English forger whose sentence was 10 years transportation. He arrived in Tasmania in 1848 on the Lady Kennaway. After his marriage he was convicted again of forgery and sent to Port Arthur.  Bridget put three of the Monaghan children into the orphanage, she said she could take care of the oldest child. One child is still unknown.

After Denis was released from the orphanage he moved to Victoria and married twice, once to Catherine Eva  Creed and then to Catherine Agnes O'Regan nee Houlihan. Denis had 6 children with Catherine Creed. Brother William was a witness to the second marriage to Catherine O'Regan. Denis died on 25 Oct 1899 at East Melbourne, Victoria.
