Theophilus Adair was born on 24 January 1868 in the Longford district, his birth was registered as Samuel but he was later christened as Theophilus Adair.

In 1869 Theophilus and his brothers were placed in the care of their grandfather William McClure at Deloraine, and William received an allowance for their care.

In 1872 the boys were placed in the Queens Orphanage.

In 1879 Theophilus was admitted to the Boys Industrial School.  He was subsequently apprenticed to Mr Oakford of Roberts Bay, Port Cygnet.

In 1904 Theophilus married Harriet Ann Dicker at Penguin, and they had five children.

Theophilus and Harriet later moved to Victoria.

Theophilus was a brother of my great grandfather Edmund Hayes.
