Hello.
I have been helping my sister with our family history research. I think I have accidentally found an Orphan belonging to our family. Orphan #3988 John Mulcahy, mother Mary Mulcahy. For this to be correct Mary had a sister Margaret Mulcahy, we have very little information on this side. Margaret is my great great grandmother.
Mulcahy, Margaret. Ship to VDL - Australasia Police #1036 age 23yrs Trial date and place 12 March 1849 at Limerick City, Ireland for "stealing a handerchief at Limerick" sentance 7 years.
Mulcahy, Mary. Ship to VDL - John Calvin Police #845 age 25yrs Trial date and place 2 November 1847 at Limerick City, Ireland
Margaret (Born - 1826) married Michael Kiernan, and lived in Snug until passing away. Michael and Margaret married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hobart Town by Rev. Charles Wood 15th March 1854. John and Mary Day were their witnesses. Was Mary Day's maiden name Mulcahy? On Michael and Margaret's marriage certificate is only states the surname Mulcahy without any Parents first names.
This Orphan died while in care at the Orphan Schools and has no descendants. The Friends of the Orphan Schools acknowledge him. A memorial garden has been created with a plaque dedicated to his memory and all those children who died. Each year the Friends gather at Fox's Feast and pause to remember them all.
