On 24 September 1853, Sarah applied for permission to marry Samuel Dodd who was a Life convict, and had arrived at Norfolk Island on John Calvin, 21 Sep 1846. Sarah was recorded as a free person. The marriage was denied.

Sarah married George Hodge, free person, New Norfolk, Tasmania 2 Jan 1854, age 32, Sarah 20, also a free person. George had arrived on the convict ship Eden 5.7.1842.

They had two sons, John Thomas Hodge DOB 19.4.1856 and although unnamed on birth certificate, the other was my GGF, George Henry Hodge DOB 22.4.1858. Births were at New Norfolk. George Hodge died at New Norfolk of consumption, 16.11.1860.

Sarah Hodge married John Samuels, age 43, shepherd, at Hamilton, Tasmania 9.12.1861 and had a further family.

Sarah Louisa Samuels died Hamilton, Tasmania 20.3.1914 of debility and John died 5.8.1881.

George Henry Hodge married Ellen Sullivan, Hamilton Tasmania, a son John Thomas Hodge married Lucy McCarthy, Bothwell Tasmania, and a daughter, my Mother, Lucy Beatrice Pearl Hodge was born Hamilton, Tasmania.

My mother married Jack Bothwell Swindells, Bothwell Tasmania.

I, John Robert Swindells was born at Ouse, Tasmania.
