Research and Publications Group

Our Research Group was formed in January 2008 to consolidate existing research and to conduct new research about the Orphan Schools and St John’s Park Precinct. It later incorporated responsibility for publications and is now known as the Research and Publications Committee. The Committee aims to strengthen and support research that demonstrates the local, national and international significance of the precinct as a cultural and historical site. It also supports and encourages publications that focus on all aspects of life within the Precinct during its 185-year existence.

The Committee meets throughout the year and has overall responsibility for organising the research program and publications for the Friends of the Orphan Schools.

The Research Group welcomes researchers interested in aspects of the Orphan Schools and other institutions within the precinct. In April 2011 we hosted a joint seminar with the Female Convicts Research Group. A large audience enjoyed a full and varied programme.
