On leaving the orphan school in 1852 Amelia assisted as a monitor for a short
time with Rev. Thomas J. Ewing.
She married Peter Emslie 30th October 1855 a
former convict having arrived on the Triton 1842. Amelia and Peter had
4 daughters. Peter died 10 years later and Amelia was left to manage a young
family. She applied to the Queens Orphan School to take the children, they were
not admitted, but she was given an allowance of 7/6 weekly –SWD26/8, 27 Two
daughters, Elizabeth Amelia & Isabella Emslie later married 2 brothers, George
Henry Priest & John Thomas Priest.
Amelia remarried 11 November 1867 to John
Joseph Francis, they had 5 sons and 1 daughter, the first 2 sons were twins and died
at 4 months. Two other sons died at a young age.
Amelia died 27 August 1893.
