Isabella's mother, Amelia Cummins, had been an orphan at the Queens Orphan School, she married Peter Emslie in 1855. Isabella was 4 years old when her father died. Amelia applied to the orphanage to take Isabella and her 3 sisters, but this was denied, the Orphanage gave Amelia an allowance of 7/6 weekly.

Isabella married John Priest in 1881, they had 3 sons. Isabella lived to 90 years old, she died in Hobart in 1951.
