Nine-year-old Ann Ferguson, daughter of Mary McGowan or Magown, arrived on the Tasmania (2) with her mother and was admitted to the Orphan School with several other children from the ship on 9 December 1845. Ann's younger brother, Patrick, died during the voyage on 20 September, only 18 days out of port. Patrick Ferguson, the son of Mary Magown died at 10 o’clock on the morning of 20 September, only 18 days out of port. He was only six months old. His illness was recorded by the ship's surgeon as 'cystitis'. According to the notes in the sick book, Patrick had been very sickly from birth and was 'much emaciated.' Twenty-nine year old Mary McGowan from Fermanagh had been transported for 7 years for the crime of larceny.
