Thomas was my great grandfather. He was admitted to the Orphans School following the drowning of his father in the Huon River. His mother was unable to care for all her children. Records show she was regarded well by authorities but had suffered from unfortunate circumstances. Thomas married Sarah Gregory, who was also at the Orphans School and they went on to have a large family, the youngest being my grandmother Doris Mary who married my grandmother Cyril Redvers ELphinstobe. Two other of Thomas and Sarah’s children married Elphinstones, Thomas Finn (jnr second youngest) married Vera, Cyril’s sister, and Vera Finn married Silas (Sam) Elphinstone, Clyde’s cousin. Thomas and Sarah lived at cockle creek (recherche Bay), Wapping and Waratah amongst other places.
