Charles Fynes was my great great grandfather. He and older brother Alexander were sent to the Queen's Asylum when their father Michael Fynes (a pensioner guard on the ship Nile in 1850 who was settled at Spring Hill Bottom) died in 1859. Charles attended the Infant School (from 6 July 1859 until 5 March 1863) before attending the Boys School. Interestingly, Charles' 4 sisters were not sent to the Queen's Asylum, instead staying with his mother Bridget in Spring Hill Bottom. Charles himself died in New Zealand in 1941.
