Thomas Glowry is my Great great uncle, son of my 3X great grandfather Michael Glowry. They travelled together to Van Dieman’s Land on the Convict ship North Briton in 1843. T. GLOURY is listed as one of 6 convicts children who were on the North Briton on page 23 of the Tasmania, Immigrant Lists, 1841-1884 ledger. Thomas’ mother sister and two brothers remained in Ireland until Michael applied for and received permission for the rest of his family to join them in Van Dieman’s Land, arriving on the ship William Jardine, 26th August, 1849. Little is at present known about most of the members of the Glowry family including Thomas after the arrival of his mother Margaret and siblings in 1849. The exception being Lawerence, who went by the surname Gloury from this period. He is my G G Grandfather and married Elizabeth McGrath in 1853 in Victoria, fathering a family of 8 children including Margaret Anne my great grandmother. Descendents of Lawerence and Elizabeth settled in Dunolly, Jeparit and Frankston in Victoria.
