Margaret Levy was the eldest daughter of Ann Dunleavy (nee Scott) and Thomas Dunleavy. She was born at the New Bailey Prison, Salford, Lancashire on 16 December 1838. Her father Thomas Dunleavy died accidentally on 26 May 1843, leaving Ann a widow with two young children. Margaret accompanied her mother, and younger brother Thomas to Hobart on the Angelina, where on arrival the children were admitted to St John's Orphanage.
At some time Margaret adopted her mothers maiden name of Scott and married James Reilly a prison officer at Campbell Street Goal on 25 September 1869. They had six children, Thomas born 1872, James 1874, Margaret Jane 1875, Thomas 1877, Elizabeth Rebecca 1879 and William 1882.
Margaret died in Hobart on 13 September 1888. Margaret Jane, her eldest daughter, married William Alfred Williams a fruitgrower of Kaoota and went on to have eight children.
Ann Levy went on to marry John Hill and their eldest daughter Mary Ann is my g.grandmother, making Margaret her half sister.
