John must have stayed with his mother, or was at the Cascades Nursery until he was 4 years old when he was sent to the Queen’s Orphanage Infant School on 8 December 1851. He was admitted to the Male School on 3 April 1856 and wasn’t released to his mother until 21 September 1863. Not much is known about him, but he appears in the Huon Lower Court Case book on 9 October 1872 for having forced himself into the dwelling house of William Fletcher, refusing to leave when requested to do so and having made use of violent and threatening language. The case was dismissed. It was the house of his mother, after all.
