Bridget McCarthy is my family's ancestor.  Her death certificate revealed that she spent her childhood in Tasmania but the details of her parents were unknown.  The age for Bridget McCarthy is an exact match for my family's ancestor.

I believe Bridget never really knew her mother, who was a convict and passed away in 1837.  Bridget was really alone in the world. Her father had already passed away when Bridget was transported with her mother.

Bridget being in the service of Dr John Learmonth makes complete sense, as Bridget lived in Geelong Victoria after leaving the Orphan School.  John Learmonth had made Geelong his headquarters in the 1840s.

Bridget McCarthy married in Geelong in 1847.  She had a large family.  Unfortunately Bridget passed away at the age of 52 in 1877.  She had been suffering from a weak dilated heart for several years but the death of her beloved daughter Jane at age 22, just 2 days prior was too much for her.

Bridget had a tough life and her story deserves to be remembered.

I have full family tree details for Bridget.    Bridget is my family's 3xgreat-grandmother.
