Ellen Melanaphy is the third of the girls who accompanied their mother Ann Melanaphy (McGuire)
(widow) of James Melanaphy of Fermanagh, Northern Ireland to VDL on the "Mexborough" in 1841. Ellen was aged 7 years when they arrived in Dec 1841. She married David Sturges(s) on 12 July 1852, Hobart, Tasmania in accordance with the Rites of the Church of England.
David a convict from Keysoe, Bedfordshire was transported to VDL in 1840 aboard the "David
Clarke".
Ellen also had three children prior to her marriage in July 1852 to David Sturges(s). These children were bought up as Sturges(s)'s. We have the name of two but the third one is unknown at this time. The two we have are -
William H Mansfield Sturgess b. Abt 1849, Tasmania and
Maria Jane (Mariah) Mansfield Sturgess b. 04 Feb 1850, Kensington, Hobart, Tasmania
These children were the illegitimate children of Ellen & James Mansfield. No marriage has been found for Ellen and James, as yet.
When Ellen married David she married under "McGuier" (sp) her mother's maiden name.
Would be delighted to share family information.
