My name is Marie Lillyst.
My Great Grandmother was Mary Parry. She came out from Wales on the Cadet 1 with her mother who was Elizabeth Thomas. Elizabethy had been sentenced to 10 years for stealing a petticoat.
She brought her 2 children Laura and Mary Parry with her.
Upon landing, Elizabeth was sent to the Female Factory. She was allowed to keep Laura with her, however Mary was sent to the Queen's Orphanage.
Mary was at the Orphanage from 1848 to 1851.
She was then assigned to a Walker family at Derwent Park, who did not treat her well.
her Mother received a ticket of leave. She moved to Oatlands, Tasmania and married William Payne. We guess that Mary visited her Mother at Oatlands and met Adam Pennicott, whon she married in 1855.
Adam and Mary had 10 children who were:
John (my Grandfather), William, Caroline, Maryanne, may, Richard, Frederick, George, Edward and Marie. Marie died as an infant.
In 1899 Adam and Mary's house caught fire and burnt to the ground. Mary was very ill at the time.
The Oatland people toiok up a collection and built them another house.
Adam died in 1901 and Mary lived to 1917 (80 years of age).
It is a coincidence that 2 females named Elizabeth Thomas came to Tasmania on the Cadet 1.
My Great Great Grandmother, Elziabeth Thomas, came from Wales.
Adam and Mary are bioth buried at Oatlands, which is my home town. My surname was Pennicott.
