Robert was born to Augusta while she was under sentence. His father was Robert CHARLES, a convict also under sentence. Augusta was assigned to a Mr Green while under the auspice of the Cascades Female Factory during the time of Robert's conception.
Robert CHARLES, father of Robert Jnr was under the auspices of the Hobart Town prisoners Barracks which is now the old Penitentiary chapel Gaol in Hobart. He had recently returned from a period at Norfolk Island in Oct 1850 after a second conviction along with his brother Peter and under a Life sentence he applied for a ticket of leave in March 1851 which was denied. Perhaps the application was an attempt by Robert to have Augusta assigned to him.
Robert Jnr would have spent most of his time with his mother at Cascades FF, however was removed from his mothers care to be placed in the Orphan School where he died a few short months after.
Robert and Augusta were married in mid 1855 and went on to have a number of other children, some born in Hobart and others born in Sydney NSW where they eventually settled. Descendants live there today and are scattered throughout Australia in a very large family network.

This Orphan died while in care at the Orphan Schools and has no descendants. The Friends of the Orphan Schools acknowledge him. A memorial garden has been created with a plaque dedicated to his memory and all those children who died. Each year the Friends gather at Fox's Feast and pause to remember them all.
